Advent decorations

26 Nov

Wow! I only just now saw Emma’s challenge. I will have to try that out :)

I know I haven’t posted in forever but I wanted to post this while I am thinking about it. Today was the Christmas baking day with my husband’s family here in Denmark. Aside from making a lot of lovely traditional cookies, we also spend the time making christmas decorations with candles for advent. Here is mine.

Hi Alaina!

I know that you (We!) are busy but I thought it could be a good idea to spark up some creativity for some personal time and I found this great challenge (with a prize, if we should be so lucky) It is for a great cause and I think too its a great challenge… read more about it here and make this one for the boys! I’m in, are you? xx

Party pin-wheels

8 Aug

I know, its been a while since I have posted here.. fortunately Alaina has done a great job at keeping things alive while I have been busy and on holiday (will be scrapbooking that one later!) And we move house in a few weeks so its all go right now, but we know that’s how things are- sometimes you scrap.. sometimes you don’t!

I thought I would just share what I did for my daughters first birthday as its Scrapbooky and the only scrapping style thing I have done in a while! The decorations were very much inspired by her babybook that I am making, the wheels and papers are in theme with it :) We had pinwheels on our cups and cake too! Hope you enjoy.

Our friends even brought some  lovely pinwheels to adorn the day!

Why a scrapbooker needs an art journal

1 Jul

For me, an art journal is a place to try out new ideas without any boundaries. It’s a place where I can be a bit extreme without ruining any photos or expensive supplies.

After trying out a new idea in my art journal, i can then apply it to something more “practical” like a card or scrapbook page.

An art journal is a great place to take an idea all the way, while practicing for a more scaled down, practical version.

Butterfly book and challenge #7

10 Jun

This was a bit of challenge for me! But it was fun and very rewarding to see that I could cope without my pretty papers! I didn’t have a whole lot of time to spend on this so It was a bit of a mad dash and I make no apologies for not having it completed with Pics in. I began early and then held off a few days as it was making me a little bitty emotional.

I picked up this butterfly book a while ago with my mother in mind to make her a little keepsake in memory of a little friend of hers whom she cared for daily at the school she works, a girl who touched so many lives as she suffered pain daily with the worst form of EB, read more about that here. Adana passed away at a tender 10 years old.  My mother would bring Adana for visits to my work (Woolies store) where I could always be sure of a healthy dose of cheeky banter and wicked wit for a soon to be ten year old wrapped from toe to neck in bandages to stop her skin from being damaged further and prevent infections as the slightest touch hurt this little lady and made her blister.

My mum would tell us stories daily of Adana, I know funny little things like after mum had eaten a pack of cheese and onion crisps for break Adana would ask mum to breath on her because that was her favorite flavor of crisps that Adana could rarely have the chance to eat as due to her condition she had was fed through a tube in her navel. I know that for Christmas dinner her request was to have macaroni cheese, that her favorite color is pink and that at Halloween I caught a glimpse of a pink furry little creature being pushed in her wheel chair. I could go on but these things I have to work on a way to add into this book.

I wanted to keep the book bright and lovely like Adana herself, also I believe that she is soaring in the most beautiful heaven happy and pain free.

This condition is so rare that there is not as much money goes into the research for cures as does for other diseases. You can leave a donation by pressing the button at the bottom of here if you would like to help children like Adana.

Alaina,

For the next challenge I want you to create some ‘altered art’ recycling at least two things!

Scraplifting! and Challenge #6

3 Jun

It was fun being a scraplifter this week!  It made me think about all the creative women in my life who inspire me.  You know who you are (I hope!).

For our workshop last saturday we chose this layout.  I love the layering and especially the pinwheels, which somehow I didn’t even end up using.  Here is my version:

Not very similar I admit!  But it was inspired by the pinwheel page, anyway.

I was just going to leave it at that, but I ended up doing another one too.  I subscribe to a lot of creative/scrapbooking blogs on google reader so that I can scroll through them on my ipod any time I need some inspiration.  During the week I came across this post.  I loved the way she used the tags and colors!  So, I became a scraplifter again.  I went back and forth on how to use the idea but in the end I decided to get “down to business” with my daughter’s baby album and do the dreaded milestones page.  So I went crazy with circles to go with the mile…STONE….idea. Lame-o I know!  Anyway here it is.

It took me a while to try and figure out how to attach the baby hair from her first haircut.  There wasn’t very much as you can see so finally I remembered I had this little bottle to put it in.

So Emma!

I was thinking this week about the items I use a lot, on every page pretty much.  Double sided tape, ink blending tool, textured cardstock…you get the idea.  My “staples.”  So I was thinking it would be fun to challenge you to identify which tool or type of supply you like to use the most, your favorite!  And NOT use it for the next challenge.  Is that mean?  I guess challenges are about stepping out of the comfort zone.  And you are free to choose WHICH item you are going to do without.  Have fun!

Little boxes – Part 1 & Challenge #5

27 May

That is the song  I chose, not because it is an all time favorite but because it is stuck in my brain,  but I do like it and find it thought provoking! It kind of fit something too.. right now, as we have just put our apartment up for sale and within one week it is now sold. My, what an emotion full.. the thought of moving! I felt it appropriate to do a proper scrapbook page with journaling to record this moment and put my feelings and thoughts with it down on paper- true scrap booker style.

I have been excited to find a use for these papers, I do like October Afternoon..! I feel that although I use this song I have to say that even if it may be that way in some areas, I don’t entirely agree that we all live in the same little boxes and go to the university and come out all the same.. I enjoyed thinking about my home, family and lifestyle and what it means to me. I believe that we may have things in common but that our lives are so unique and I wanted in this project to celebrate the fun, sweet and intimate moments at home with my own precious little family.

At first I wanted to use a page with some different little houses that would be interactive- little house doors that flip with photos inside.. but then I realize that this is not so easy to do for several reasons.. with problems for the viewer and keeping things in the album sleeves.. I decided then to do a page for my large album with the all important journaling and do a smaller album which gives the interaction I  hoped for the larger page.

It has been a busy week (remember my apartment got sold!) also Alaina and I are busy organizing a day of Scrapbooking  (this Saturday) So I have not been able to finish my challenge and will work on them on Saturday and post again on the completed items.

Enjoy!

Alaina, I challenge you this next week to be a copy cat. Scrapbook a page using the Lay-out (altered and adapted to suit yourself) of a page you find/ have found and admire. :D

Challenge #3

14 May

I forgot to write up Alaina’s next challenge! Alaina.. I give you the opportunity to work on completing or improving an already existing project of your choice. I already know that you are interested in finishing your previous challenge and I am looking forward to seeing the finished piece especially after my latest sneak peak at it!! I love the new addition of colour to it.

Happy Scrapbooking!

Challenge #2

6 May

I forgot to give Emma her challenge!  Just because I am taking extra long to complete mine doesn’t mean that she is off the hook ;)

Dear Emma,

So actually, I have a lot of ideas, but first I thought it would be nice if you also get a chance to introduce yourself, so our readers will know both of us.  But it’s a little different this time.  Your challenge is to create something (page, layout, mini book, card, etc) that introduces us to your individual scrapbooking style.  It should be a creation that you feel shows your unique point of view as a scrapbooker.

I hope that makes sense and isn’t too broad!  I guess it’s obvious that I watch project runway :)  Anyway, I look forward to see the result.

Happy scrapping!

Alaina
